Time drips past like a leaky faucet as you stare at the television that displays commercial after boring commercial. Your mouth droops into a tired grimace. Blah blahblah.... “HAPPY BIRTHDAY!” The sincere peppy voice jerks you to attention like a bucket of water to the face. The TV screen is a brilliant shade of solid red. A ball of fluff in oversized shoes and a floppy hat hops into view- backwards. You are so relieved to see something new and unexpected that a chuckle escapes your throat. You find yourself turning up the volume and leaning closer to watch. “Hello there, boys and girls! Ladies and Gents! Happy Birthday!” A wave of confetti falls from the sky. Trumpets blast. Balloons appear out of thin air with a POP. All while the funny looking little JubJub toots a hand-held horn with his foot. A trickle of disbelief enters your mind... The neopet pauses and lays his wide eyes covered in make-up on you. You notice he's dressed like a clown. “Not your birthday you say?" You think well duh. "Oh, but every day can feel like your birthday if you know the secret! What secret, you may ask? Let’s take a look in my magic hat and see if we can find it.” With one giant leap, the JubJub does a mid-air flip and lands upside down on his head. He balances there a moment atop his hat, and then WOOP! His whole fuzzy body plops inside. The hat stands alone on your television screen. It sways and jumps with his frantic movements from within. “I’ll give you a hint,” the neopet’s muffled voice taunts. “It isn’t gold!” A short pause and the hat explodes in a tsunami of neopoints that roll across the floor in piles. Your mouth is open in shock, eyes glued to the spectacle before you. But before you have time to wonder, the neopoints reassemble and again appear to be nothing more than a hat. The JubJub’s voice returns, “It isn’t stuff!” The hat begins to shutter violently. Bubbles of all shapes and sizes float out. They grow as they climb higher and higher into the air. Then, with multiple POPs, each becomes its own expensive luxury item until the screen looks like a scrapbook. You hear a noise that you can’t quite place... it’s familiar, yet foreign... and it’s in the actual room with you. It’s laugher, you realize! You’re laughing! Big, belly-wrenching laughs! Your smile is so enormous it hurts your cheeks. The TV goes black. You come to your senses, but still can't wipe the goofy grin off your face. The JubJub reappears; he levitates using a carnival beanie complete with propellers. “The secret to a happy day is laughter,” he says matter-of-factly. His magic hat, now right side up, comes bouncing on screen. The neopet drops to the ground as the hat hops onto his head. With a smile that mirrors your own, the JubJub declares, “I’m Kigglee the Clown. And I’ll turn your frown upside down.”
