Destiny is not who you are, but who you become!!!

Pet Name: Austereich
Owner: lbrethe
Breed: Gelert

About Austereich:

I guess it started in the jungles of Mystery Island where I grew up. I don't know whether Mother Nature just hated me or if it was an accident, but I was born weak and small. I used to try and play with the other Gelert puppies, but they laughed at me and pushed me to a side. I used to run off to my mother and whimper behind her legs. My mum would lick my face and calm me down, but she was the one person in the world not laughing at me.

In time, us puppies had to leave our mothers, and my protection from the cruel world was gone. The moment is still stuck in my head as an endless nightmare. She turned away from me and as I walked toward her, she turned around and snarled at me. I yelped out in fear and began to tremble, my yellow coat sticking up on end. A tear dripped down from her eye. My mum turned and faced away from me.

"Go now," she said. She began to walk off. I whimpered and followed her.

"Don't make this harder than it is!!" she yelled and with that she sprinted off into the jungle and I was left there standing alone and forlorn. The one person who actually cared for me was gone.

As the months wore on, the other Gelert pups began bullying me. They would attack me from behind or bite my tail. They were taking advantage of my puniness. Sometimes I managed a feeble bark of "Go away." But the Gelert just laughed and said that it was my destiny to grow up small and weak and that no one would want me.

When I was eight months old, on the verge of depression, a miracle happened. In a fairy tale, I would have been blessed by a faerie and made stronger, but something better happened.

I was sitting on a rock beside a small lake one night when I heard some voices.

"This looks like a good place to set up camp!" a voice said.

"What if we fall in the water?" came a second.

Then I saw two figures come out of the trees and into the moonlight. One was a girl, tall and thin, and the other was a short little Bruce. I was scared at first, but the figures didn't come near me.

Then, out of the blue, a green Gelert came out at me and pushed me into the water. I yelped out in surprise and was plunged underwater. It was really scary and I thought I was going to drown when the Gelert was knocked off the top of me and I felt a hand wrap around my belly. It was the girl, and she'd pulled me out.

Then she put me on the bank.

"Are you alright?" she asked, sounding really worried. I nodded, but my head really hurt.

"Don't worry," the Bruce said, "I'll help!" The Bruce held out its flippers and they glowed a blue hue, similar to her beautiful blue feathers. Then she put them on my forehead and I felt better.

"That was a good Heal!" the girl said, "I'm lbrethe." She held out her hand. I held out a shaky paw.

"And I'm Inookshook2000!" the Bruce said.

"Austereich," I said weakly.

"You shouldn't let him do that to you, you know," lbrethe said.

"Oh, they've always done that. I'm just a runt! I'll never be strong!" I sobbed.

"Hey! Don't say that. Something lbrethe has always told me is 'Destiny is not who you are, but who you become', " Inookshook2000 said to me, rubbing my back.

"Come on, you can be my Neopet!" lbrethe cried, "Me and Inookshook2000 could use another addition to our team."

"But you want me?! I could never be ood enough to be with you two," I said shamefully.

"I'll train you," lbrethe suggested.

"And I'll help!" Inookshook2000 added.

And so I went off with, and they did train me. I learnt to make up for my strength and size for speed. I became cunning and won many battles. Of course I got the two bestest best friends I could ever have! One day, we even returned to Mystery Island and I won against that green Gelert in a battle. But the whole time I remembered that little phrase that did so much, "Destiny is not who you are, but who you become."
