Quote of the Week

It was a crisp and chilly day in Neopia. The sounds of crackling leaves, hissing Meowclops, and the smell of hot Borovan was around every corner. It was the morning of Halloween.

How to throw the BEST Halloween Party!

It that time of year again! When October 31st rolls around on the calendar, it’s time to break out the spooky costumes, the gory decorations, and bowls of tasty treats! I’ve compiled a list of the best items around Neopia to throw the spookiest Halloween party ever! The trick to creating the best party is setting the atmosphere. What is it you’re trying to accomplish? Do you want to be known as the family friendly atmosphere for all ages? Or how about the most stylish Neohome that the Neopian Times raves about the next day? Or be known as THE scariest Neohome on the block where little ones cry about having to walk past? Whichever you decide, be sure to start off your planning by selecting a theme, and from there you can plan the rest of your ideas and decorations around it. Send out your invitations ASAP because Halloween is just around the corner! Of the three themes I suggested above, I’ve compiled a list of the items from the ‘Spooky Furniture’ store located in the Haunted Woods that could be used for each one. Since I don’t know what your Neohome looks like, I leave the setting and placement up to you!

Who Rules the Haunted Woods?

The Haunted Woods encompass an absolutely massive swath of land in southern Neopia. From the Werelupe Woods to the halls of Castle Nox, most of the Haunted Woods is ruled by local Lords, Ladies, and other kinds of nobility who govern their own patches of land. While the Haunted Woods has no formally declared ruler, is there someone who stands out above the rest as a de facto leader? I’ll be evaluating the arguments for and against the leadership of a number of powerful Neopians who call the Haunted Woods their home. Perhaps it would be prudent to introduce the main fiefdoms of the Haunted Woods. There is the Haunted Woods proper, where characters like Edna the Witch, Eliv Thade, the Esophager, and the Brain Tree live. Then there’s the Deserted Fairground, where one can find all sorts of shopkeepers and carnival booth operators. Most notably, the castle and property of Hubrid Nox sits on the outskirts of the fairgrounds, just beyond where normal Neopets would dare to travel. Then there’s the Gypsy Camp, which showed up a few years ago and guards the entryway to Neovia.

A Guide to the Neopian Halloween!

Aw yes, October 31st. Halloween is here again. The season everyone loves to love! Is it because of the spookiness? Is it because of all the candy related activities? Is it the possibility of dressing up as one of your favorite characters? Or, perhaps, is it all of it together? Well, either way, year by year, we all want to take the most out of this special and unique day, since it comes and goes by so fast. Halloween is so special that here, on Neopets, we have plenty of stuff to do that are exclusive to this specific day. I’m talking about events, prizes, awards, games and many more. Are you feeling overwhelmed yet?

"I promise you that there is no need to worry about our new guest here, Lugus. He should pose no concern to the court nor the king nor any and all the people of Altador, I can assure you!” Glimjack seemed awfully giddy despite the fact he was being thoroughly interrogated by a high-ranking member of the king’s guards, a Draik named Lugus who had been regarding him with a disappointed look. “What I have found here is an amazing and… otherworldly discovery in the very Haunted Woods itself!” “Things found in the Haunted Woods to be amazing and otherworldly tend to be malicious and cursed,” Lugus argued. “Tell me, if what you have brought here is so safe then why did you feel the need to conceal him in a concealing hood last night?” Glimjack eyes grew wide. “Who saw me bring him in last night?” Lugus sighed. “Who saw you is irrelevant and-“ Awilda, known bounty hunter and a Krawk of intimidating stature who was before standing by Lugus so silently that Glimjack hardly noticed she was there, confessed, “It was me, Jack. You were very hush about it too. Waited until the guards were being switched out late at night so nobody would notice you. It was actually rather intelligent and would be the way I would go about it.”

"Have an Ice Halloween!" by cruthmac
It was Halloween on Terror Mountain. Well, it was Halloween everywhere, of course, but the point is, our story begins on Terror Mountain. Snow-covered jack-o-lanterns were displayed outside each house, and all the trick-or-treaters were trying to figure out how to make their costumes look good over warm coats and hats. Even in a place like this, the magic of Halloween was in the air. Patches the Christmas Bori may have been more inclined towards magic of an icy nature, but she could still feel it swirl up the mountain from the Haunted Woods, and it made her restless. Her much less magically inclined family was rather surprised when she stomped down the stairs and called out “Who wants to come to the Haunted Woods with me?” “I’m not going anywhere when there’s a Ghoul Catchers marathon on,” her brother Max said, eyes glued to the TV. Patches didn’t think he had even registered the mention of Haunted Woods. “No way,” their owner, Christy, added. “Besides, I just sat down with this popcorn.” She shoved a handful in her face to prove her point. Patches’ older brother Six looked at her curiously. “You’re referring to the legend that spending Halloween in the Haunted Woods will enhance a witch’s magic for a year, correct?” “It's not a legend,” Patches said impatiently. “I can feel it calling me. It’s true.”

"Nothing is Scarier than a Halloween Brat" by _brainchild_
It was Halloween night, and Walda the Baby Kacheek was sitting at home with a glum expression on her face. While her friends were out trick-or-treating, she was being punished for misbehavior which may or may not have included a chocolate-induced sugar rush. “Grounded on Halloween!” she exclaimed to herself. “This stinks!” While her older siblings went to a Halloween party, Walda had been left in the care of her cousin Anjetta, who didn’t care for spooky gatherings or Halloween in general. Bored, Walda went into the living room, where she picked up her crayons and her coloring book. She was scribbling orange over a pumpkin when she heard a snore. Anjetta had fallen asleep on the couch. With a mischievous smile, Walda had an idea. If Anjetta was not watching Walda, then the latter could go anywhere she wanted, and no one would find out, as long as she got back before her sisters got home. Walda gleefully put on her faerie costume and pranced out the door. She found her friends walking along the sidewalk, pillowcases containing candy in hand. “Hey!” she exclaimed. “I’m here!” “Weren’t you grounded?” one of her friends asked. Walda paused. “You said you were grounded,” another pointed out. “Did you sneak out?” “Maybe...” “Go home. Your family is probably worried about you. Don’t worry---we’ll save you some chocolate.”
